Do It Yourself Tips Can Save You Time And Money
Do-it-yourself projects come in all shapes and sizes. Don’t have a lot of time to invest in upgrading your home? No problem! We’ve compiled a list of DIY ideas that can be completed in a weekend or less, giving you more time to enjoy your accomplishments and search for something new to do.
Entryway
Get a brand new look without spending too much time or money. Sand and paint your front door a bold new color. Do the same with the door trim. Swap out your old house numbers with new ones. Add or replace your entryway fixtures with new exterior lighting. Add a planter or two, and if there is space consider placing some furniture on the front porch. Or, if you’re feeling extra handy, go online and find plans to build your own bench or chairs.
Living room
A can of paint goes a long way, so add some life to your living room with a new color or two. Try patterns to create a more stand-out space. Rent a commercial carpet cleaner from the local home center, or polish the floors if you have hardwood. Install crown molding or wall railing, or add shelving to a section of the room. There are plenty of DIY sites online with how-to plans for building coffee tables and other accessories out of reclaimed wood.
Kitchen
A backsplash is a simple upgrade that really makes a kitchen pop. Get creative and go online or look at home magazines for ideas. Consider tile, metal, ceramic or other materials to build it. Replace cabinet door panels with glass to showcase your wares. Install new sink fixtures and look around for unique or vintage hardware to add to those new cabinets or drawers. Upgrade the existing lights with new fixtures, track or recessed lighting.
A Splash Of Color Can Liven Up A Room
Bathroom
Like any room of the house, bathrooms always look better with a fresh coat of paint. Give your guests something to talk about with bold, rich hues. Add or remove wallpaper for a new effect. Replacing old faucets gives the space a new look, as does updated lighting fixtures. Upgrade the bathroom door with two-toned trim. Spend a day or two fixing a running toilet and replace any worn out parts.
Bedroom
The master bedroom is your personal retreat, so feel free to be creative! We really enjoy finding cool projects using salvaged wood because the possibilities are nearly endless. Find plans online for building a headboard for your bed. Add or update your curtains and rods. Build or buy shelves and other accessories to help organize your closets. If you’re happy with the color of your walls, consider painting your bedroom furniture for a splash of color. Think outside the frame when it comes to art and hang something unorthodox, like an architectural item.
Yard
Tired of storing all your lawn care stuff in the garage? Devote a weekend to building a small shed out back. There are many simple and affordable plans available on the internet. Add a porch swing or build your own pergola to provide shade and vertical growing opportunities in your garden. Replace worn out or rotten decking planks. If you use your yard to entertain, build a stone fire pit and a couple horseshoe boxes for a fun evening outdoors.
